About My Structure
--------
The sixth
Primer 1 is a primer done without any context or function to the structure.
This primer's objective is to aid in the forms and massings of structures.
The structure consists of planes, lines and volumes, the three architectural elements that help choreograph the structure. The materiality of these functions were varied between transparent, translucent and opaque.
The structure is also bounded by the Fibonacci's sequence:
0, 1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13, 21
Constraints :
21 x 21 x 21 CM Boundary
13 Lines
8 Planes
5 Volumes
No Glue
My structure took on the key word "Orbit".
The first imagery that comes to my mind when i think about "Orbit" is an atom, where electrons orbit around the nucleus constantly.
This then acted as my guiding principle to the design to ensure that control is practiced in the design.
My design orbited around an implied volume (the 6th volume which is a void).
My lines and planes and volumes are choreographed to achieve 90 degree cuts and orientations so as to surround the void that they are orbitting around, forming the implied volume. This order in the design also helps ensure that the implied volume is hidden within the final cubish form.
Lines were chosen to be transparent to express the floating of the other 2 elements as lines acted mainly as structural joints between the planes and volumes. This allowed more limelight on my planes and volumes..
Lines were chosen to be translucent to express the ambiguity of the implied volume. The translucency overlaps each other at different places of the strcutre, allowing a more dense composition at the overlap. These places occur all at the outlines of the implied volumes to give a hint of where it is.
Volumes were chosen to be opaque to show the contrast between the 5 volumes and the implied volume. The opacity expresses the volumetric qualities of the volumes best and the heaviness of these opaque volumes towards the implied volumes allowed to hint at the implied volume again.
